On Saturday 4th September, All Ireland Mothers’ Union president June Butler walked 21km at The Curragh as she visited the dioceses of Meath and Kildare. This was part of her “21 in 21” fundraising project, whereby she has set out to walk 21kms in each diocese in the country to raise money for the MU Mums in May fund.

Before the walk, with members of Meath and Kildare Mothers’ Union from across the diocese there was a short service in St Patrick’s church in Newbridge, followed by refreshments. The service was led by the the diocesan chaplain to the Mothers’ Union, Rev Ruth O’Kelly.

June was joined by Sylvia Wheatley, the Diocesan President of the MU in Meath and Kildare, as well as Bishop Pat Storey and many other members of the Mothers’ Union in the dioceses. The Curragh covers almost 5000 acres of common land in Newbridge, County Kildare.

‘Mums in May’ (MIM) is an All-Ireland Fund which was established in 2012 in celebration of 125 years of MU in Ireland. The Fund supports new and on-going MU projects throughout Ireland as well as specific important overseas projects.

Every third year the MIM Fund is replenished through the efforts of members in Ireland and 2021 will be the fourth occasion when MU fundraising will focus on the Fund.

There are 11 Mothers’ Union groups in Meath and Kildare. You can find out more about them at
