From An Garda Siochana to Ordination

Congratulations to Rev Mike Buchanan, who was ordained as a deacon by Bishop Pat Storey in St Mary’s Church, Navan. The service took place at 7.30pm on Sunday 10 September. The preacher was Canon John Clarke, rector of Navan, where Mike will also serve.

Mike was a Sergeant in An Garda Siochana, before retiring in 2021 after a career spanning 31 years. He is married to Marti, a retired Jazz Vocalist who is currently studying for a paramedic qualification. They have three children, Natasha, Dayna and Arlo.

Diocesan Director of Music, Ms Doreen Kimberley, along with the diocesan choir, led the singing.

Members of Mike’s family were joined by friends, parishioners and clergy from across the dioceses.

Refreshments were served in the adjoining parish room after the service.

Bishop Pat Storey welcomed Mike to the dioceses by saying, “Mike brings great life experience and a record of public service. We congratulate him on his ordination and are delighted to welcome him, Marti and their family amongst us.”
