Gearing up for Aware

Simon Malley will be doing a Wheelchair Push to raise money for Aware again this year. He is starting on June 1st and will finish on June 30th 2022.

We still remember all the lockdowns during the pandemic. In 2021, when everyone was restricted to a 5km radius, Simon wondered how many kms he could do in his wheelchair in a month without leaving his 5km restriction.

He set himself an initial goal of 200 km which he hoped to achieve between the 9 April and 30 June to raise much needed funds for the charity Aware. Not only did he push over 1000kms, Simon also raised almost €3000. Talking at that time about why he had set himself this challenge he said, “With everything … happened over (that) year I wanted to make people aware of the great work and help that is available through the work of Aware.”

Aware is one of the partners in the dioceses of Meath and Kildare’s ‘Mind Yourself’ project – to raise awareness of mental health issues and point people to where they can find support and help. Aware is a national organisation providing free support, education and information services to those impacted by anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and related mood conditions.

This year, as Simon says on his fundraising web page, “I’m doing to fundraise for Aware. Your support is very much appreciated. A Big Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far I really appreciate it. Keep Smiling Keep Shining”
