We launched Phase 2 of our Good for the Sole project in St Brigid’s Cathedral, Kildare on Sunday 19 June.
The occasion was a special service, followed by refreshments provided by members of the Cathedral. The diocesan choir that is based in the Cathedral provided wonderful music.
We were also delighted to have Dr Jerry Joshua, a surgeon from India, along with Ken Gibson (CEO The Leprosy Mission Ireland). Jerry talked about life transforming surgical procedures that are now being performed on leprosy patients.
Last year we completed Phase 1 of our Good for the Sole project. We successfully raised in excess of €25,000 to supply 10,000 pairs of sandals. These are worn by leprosy sufferers to prevent further damage to their feet.
We actually raised €37,000!
This means we have over €12,000 to put towards Phase 2!
Over this next year we are sponsoring surgical procedures at a cost of €50 per patient.
We get great value for our Euro in India. A procedure that costs €50 to carry out there would cost thousands in Ireland. The surgery will improve the sufferer’s mobility and help their prospects for the future – every €50 will have a wonderful impact.
It is up to each parish and school to decide how many surgeries they want to sponsor.
