The Dioceses of Meath and Kildare are pleased to announce the appointment of Luke Hawkins to the joint post of Diocesan Youth Officer and Chaplain of Wilson’s Hospital School. Luke will be taking up his post shortly.
Luke brings a lot of experience of church involvement and working with young people. He is currently a teacher in Weatherhead High School, on The Wirral in England. As well as teaching, his role includes pastoral responsibilities for pupils in the school.
He has a lot of experience of voluntary youth work, including with leadership of summer camps. In the past he has also been involved in youth work in Toxteth, Liverpool.
Luke has an honours degree in history from Cambridge. As well as completing a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) at Manchester Metropolitan University he has also undertaken a course in Youth Leadership.
As well as his involvement in youth work and teaching he has also been an active member of his parish PCC (Parochial Church Council), in St Anne’s, Aigbugth’s in the diocese of Liverpool. A PCC in a Church of England parish is quite similar to a Select Vestry in the Church of Ireland.
Outside of work and church involvement one of Luke’s main hobbies is jazz music. He has been a lead saxophonist in a jazz band. He is married to Esther.
