We are going to have an opportunity to get to know those who are being ordained in coming weeks – through interviews and short articles.

On the evening of Thursday 9 September Pat Ryan and Marion Keating will be ordained as deacons, by Bishop Pat Storey. The service will take plce in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Trim. The preacher will be Rev William Seale.

Marion Keating will serve in Kells Union of parishes, and Pat Ryan will serve in Navan Union of parishes.

Here, we find out a bit more about Pat Ryan. She is from Navan Union of parishes.

Canon John Clarker, her rector, said, “I’ve known Pat for fifteen years. Soon after she joined the congregation in Slane, Pat was voted on to the Select Vestry. Pat has been Churchwarden for many years and is deeply involved in the life of Slane Parish and Navan Union.” He continued, “She is most supportive, reliable, always punctual and is a warm cheerful person. Therefore, as Rector, I greatly value her work and ministry.”

As Slane has a small congregation, Pat has taken on many responsibilities through the years, such as a Nominator and Member of Diocesan Synod.

Along with a few other parishioners, Pat took on the role of Parish Reader in Navan Union a few years ago. However, once the Ordained Local Ministry programme came into being, Pat showed much interest and was very keen to pursue this route toward Ordination.

A Service of Preparation for Pat’s ordination to the Diaconate took place at the 10.00a.m. Morning Service at St. Patrick’s Church, Slane and at the 11.30a.m. Celebration of The Holy Communion at St. Mary’s Church, Navan, on Sunday 5th September. This gave Pat and all in Navan Union a formal opportunity to prepare for her ordination.

Pat’s husband, Brian McIvor, is the Organist at St. Patrick’s Church, Slane.
