Mothers’ Union at the Ploughing Championship

Have you ever wondered how people manage with babies at Europe’s largest outdoor event? When babies need fed or changed they can’t wait. But, how do you feed or change a baby at an event as big as the National Ploughing Championships, held outside Tullamore this year?

That was a question the organisers of this popular event asked themselves some years ago. It was then that the Mothers’ Union volunteered their help. For the last twelve years members of the Mothers’ Union have supplied a tent and volunteers – to give facilities to those with babies to change or feed their babies.

The free service is organised by the Mothers’ Union in whatever diocese the Ploughing Championships are held in. They are joined by volunteers from other dioceses. This year the Mothers’ Union from Meath and Kildare, led by diocesan president Sylvia Wheatley, provided the very welcome service.
