Parishioners from the Mountmellick Group of Parishes were joined by neighbours and visitors for the the Institution of Rev Tim Irvine as their new Rector. A large number of lay readers, visiting clergy and clergy from other denominations were also in attendance to offer their support.

St Paul’s Church, Mountmellick was packed for the service which took place at 8pm on 9 June. The Institution was performed by Bishop Pat Storey. The preacher was Dean Katherine Poulton (Dean of Ossory) from Kilkenny Cathedral. As well as friends and family Tim was joined by his parents, from Newtownards, Ron and Roberta. Local representatives also joined the gathering.

Before coming to take up his new post Tim was Vicar of Kilkenny Union, where he served with Dean Poulton. Prior to ordination he was a teacher, where his original degree was in English. He is a keen reader and also has a great interest in music.

At the end of the Service a number of speeches of welcome were made in the Church. Following this everyone was invited to share in an excellent supper in the adjacent ‘Old School Hall’.

We are delighted to welcome Rev Tim to the diocese and we join with Mountmellick Group of Parishes in celebrating the beginning of a new chapter in their life.
