Luke was accompanied at the service by his wife Esther. He is the part time Diocesan Youth Officer for Meath and Kildare. As well as this he is chaplain to Wilson’s Hospital School, where Esther is also Head of the Maths Department.

A good number of pupils from Wilson’s Hospital attended the service. The principal, Mr Frank Milling, read one of the lessons. Prayers were led by young people who were celebrating the first anniversary of their confirmation. Parishioners from across Mullingar Union of parishes also attended the service.

The service was led by Bishop Pat Storey, who also celebrated communion and preached, along with Canon Alastair Graham who is rector of All Saints.

Bishop Pat Storey said, “We are indebted to our lay readers who minister so faithfully across the dioceses each week. I am delighted to commission Luke and welcome him to that team.“ She continued, “I want to mark my appreciation of the work of Canon Alastair Graham and Rev Ruth O’Kelly, who do so much work with our lay-readers and to nurture vocation across the dioceses.”
